I wasn't a fan of Man of Steel, or Ben Affleck's casting in the new one. I'm friends with one of the stunt guys from Batman vs Supes. But their spectacular action in other sequences made up for it. The suits always prevented the dudes doubling Batman from moving right. None of the Batman films so far produced have had genuinely good fights. Lord knows how else he'll last against Supes. Hopefully Batflek gets to prove to cinema audiences that Batman can win through his intellect. Someone else posted the Dark Knight Returns fight against the Mutant Leader where he fights tactically and proves brute strength, stamina and even speed are useless without the right mentality. Seeing him defeat Doctor Destiny in the Justice League cartoon was awesome because he went up against a guy who tore through Superman, Flash and Green Lantern by just being Batman at him. The things that make Batman amazing are that he can stand up to Meta-Powered thugs and fiends by his sheer will, wit and determination. ![]() Nolan's Bat movies missed that crucial element. I saw a psuedo documentary about The Death and Return of Superman where the guy states that "frat brawl" is Superman's schtick and what makes Batman interesting is that he thinks of ways to defeat his opponents rather than just a haymaker contest. Honestly with the whole "the dark betrays you" schtick and the smoke pellets failing, I'd have liked to have seen him use a Bat-Flashbang to disorient Bane enough for him to disable the mask. Instead he just needed to use the world's greatest detective brain to punch the weak spot on his face. Either by subverting his tactics or doing something outlandish. I always thought the final fight in DKR would have had him outsmart Bane somehow. It was sad they didn't really develop Batman to be a more finessed fighter as the sequels progressed, but at least he was consistently an "agent of fear" first and a brute fighter when he needed to be.ĮDIT: I've been speaking English for years, and me still don't does it right. ![]() He was lurking there, around the corner, waiting to beat your ass for mugging some guy or stealing an old lady's purse.or being a mobster, etc. I think that emphasizes that Bruce was just very brutish. Even Alfred makes that quip about the point of having all the muscle if he can't lift a log. He fought in a jail like a brute, and then was taught ninja stuff (more so than actual fighting style, from what we saw) by the League of Shadows. And if you think about it, Nolan's Batman was never really properly trained. He was a guy who worked in the shadows, but when it came down to actual fighting he was still just a brute, all vengeance and angst. They're fairly weak arguments.Īnd it sort of fit where Bruce was in his development of Batman at the time. Pretty sure these dissections are a desperate attempt to remove any validity from the original prequels at all in an attempt to elevate the originals. They shouldn't be swinging at each other anyway, it's just pretty standard fight choreography. Keeping your distance while swinging is more an issue of camera placement. ![]() And he clearly ducks the flying lightsaber when he sees it coming at his head, so that explains why he doesn't finish Obi-Wan off. Who cares how long it takes Obi-Wan to recover, there's no reasonable move Darth Maul has. ![]() Of course he'd try to keep himself fully behind his lightsaber instead of flailing out blindly with it.ĭarth Maul not jumping into the pit after Obi-Wan is common sense, too. Obi-Wan ducking under a dual-lightsaber without reposting makes sense if he's actually worried about the second blade of the lightsaber. Qui-Gon having his back to the fight would make sense if he was stunned, which removing the context from the scene makes look less logical.
